🎯 Who Can Apply?
General Eligibility
- Master’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks.
- A 1-year/2-semester Master's degree after a 4-year Bachelor’s programme with minimum 75% marks may also be considered.
- A 2-year/4-semester Master's degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks is also accepted.
Relaxation
A relaxation of 5% marks may be available for candidates belonging to
SC, ST, OBC, Differently-Abled and EWS categories, as applicable.
⭐ NET Candidates
Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/CSIR-NET in the concerned subject
may be exempted from the written examination.
However, eligible exempted candidates still have to appear for the
Personal Interview/Viva-Voce.
📚 Special Eligibility
Sankaradeva Studies
A Master's degree in any discipline from a recognized University/Institute
with at least 55% marks or equivalent GPA is required.
North East Studies
Applicants should have a Master's degree in History or English
(Literature) with at least 55% marks or equivalent GPA.
Biotechnology
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in Molecular Biology,
Biotechnology, Bioinformatics or an allied biological science field
with at least 55% marks.
📝 Entrance Test & Selection
Test Pattern
- 50% Research Methodology
- 50% Subject-specific questions at PG level
Selection Weightage
- Written Test – 70%
- Interview / Viva-Voce – 30%
Candidates exempted from the written test will be considered on the basis
of their performance in the interview/viva-voce.

⏳ Ph.D. Programme Duration
The Ph.D. programme has a minimum duration of 3 years
(6 semesters), including coursework. The maximum duration
mentioned in the notification is 6 years from the date
of admission.
